Conceptualization and Design Process
The project proposes a master plan in the mountains of Samaná that merges Dominican vernacular architecture with contemporary comfort through an immanent architectural approach, where forms, materials, and uses arise directly from the physical, cultural, and human environment of the site.
Inspired by the essence of Samaná—its colorful houses, mango orchards, cattle, and privileged views of the sea, river, and mountains—the project seeks to preserve local identity, fostering a harmonious relationship between people and nature.
Furthermore, spiritual and contemplative elements are incorporated—such as viewpoints, gardens of silence, meditative trails, and common spaces open to the landscape—to offer experiences of serenity and inner connection. In this way, the master plan not only responds to the material needs of living but also cultivates emotional and spiritual well-being, reinforcing the concept of “the island that has it all.”
